Screen Print
Screen-Print Workshop
13 August 2022
10:00-2:00PM
Hosted at our studio at the Isle of Houghton Office Park
Facilitated by Heidi Mielke, a visual artist, printmaker, activist, and arts educator. Heidi holds a Master’s in Fine Art from the University of Johannesburg and is currently employed as a 2nd Year Coordinator at Artist Proof Studio. She specializes in a range of printmaking techniques including Screen-printing!
What is Screen-printing?
The principle of screen-printing consists of applying stencils to a screen (previously constructed of silk and now constructed of synthetic material such as polyester) in such a way that when the ink is applied to the screen, it is prevented from passing through the material in some parts of the screen and thereby printing an image on paper placed underneath. Posters and t-shirts are also created using screen-printing.
APS Alumni such Sifiso Temba and Ramarutha Makoba use screen printing the work, click here for more examples.
Participants will need to book and send an image of what they would like to print a week before the workshop. This can be a photograph, drawing or painting which we will transfer onto acetate to make positives. You will be shown the process of exposing a screen and how to print on the day.
Disclaimer: Bookings to be made a week before the workshop to allow time for ordering materials. We need a minimum of 7 people to run the workshop. If it happens that we receive less than 7 bookings a new date will be communicated to everyone who has signed up. Please contact rene@artistproofstudio.co.za for any queries.
Workshop fees include materials and light refreshments.
