Collection: Hlavutelo Ngobeni

In my work, I reference cultural objects used by my grandmother which are indigenous to our traditional way of living. I grew up in a Xitsonga tribe in a rural village called Thomo. My grandmother taught me how to make these objects out of clay and the process of strengthening them. These objects play a crucial role during rituals and ceremonies as well as everyday necessity of storing water and grain for poultry. I feel very privileged to have this knowledge and be a custodian of our traditions.
