About Artist

Nathi Ndlandla was born 1979 Alexandra Township. Was raised by a single parent and studied in Alex until completing his matric at East Bank high school. He lived with his mother, aunt, five cousin and two uncles under one shelter. He survived through the support of the community, friends and teachers who mentored him. As his school did not have art as a subject, he created his own art projects, wire cars and clay sculptures.

After a year at home with no financial support to study further, he found out about Artist Proof Studio. Here he was introduced to printmaking and after a year he was sponsored by Pin Point One Solutions. He graduated after three years as a professional printmaker. Soon after graduating his mother passed away.

He later worked at Phumani Paper, a research development unit of University Of Johannesburg researching and developing of Archival Hand-Made Paper for printmaking as well as training and development in the community. He worked as an apprentice for Tim Foulds and currently works as a master printmaker in the Artist Proof Studio Pro-Shop. He was awarded an Ampersand Fellowship to New York in 2018.
