Artist statement
Samantha tackles the themes of feminism and identity, where she looks at the misconceptions of black femininity. Her current body of work looks at change and adaptation. There are two types of people... those who decide their own fate then there's those whose fate was decided for them long before they were even born.
The second type of person is always in denial believing that they are like the first type of person and the longer they deny who they are, the longer they lead a blind path with no form of direction or destination.
We all have painful, fragile, sensitive experiences we prefer not to voice out but rather to let our art speak for us. This chapter of my life is one that leaves me speechless for it lingers around like a dark cloud of depression. With this body of work, I share my own experience of change and adaptation, how I was able to grow from change.
