Artist Proof Studio recently collaborated with Art & About Gallery sponsored by Rand Merchant Bank in an all-print exhibition titled Converging Visions. The exhibition brings together a diverse group of Artist Proof Studio artists exploring memory, identity, and resilience. The exhibition showcases a range of printmaking techniques, from delicate etchings to bold screen prints, each piece adding a unique voice to the narrative.
A highlight of the exhibition was the exclusive release of William Kentridge’s "In Defence of Optimism". Each William Kentridge print sold contributes to providing students with access to materials, mentorship, and career-shaping opportunities. Investing in these works exhibition by our artists is a commitment to sustaining the future of South African printmaking.
Motion & Expression: A Celebration of Movement and Art
Motion & Expression is a vibrant new exhibition showcasing 60 artists from diverse disciplines, currently on view at Origin Art Gallery. Bringing together printmakers, painters, digital artists and graffiti artists, the show reimagines the skateboard deck as both a canvas and a cultural artifact. Each artist transformed these boards in unexpected ways, some carved like woodblocks, others layered with paint, digital imagery, and mixed media blurring the lines between street culture and fine art.
Among the featured artists are APS graduates Jason Langa, Minenkulu Ngoyi, and Thuli Lubisi, along with APS collaborator Leigh Roux. Jason Langa, a 2024 RMB Talent Unlocked participant, captures moments of deep emotion and personal reflection, using print techniques that merge nostalgia with self-discovery. Leigh Roux, a tattoo and graffiti artist, brings an expressive and fearless approach to his work, emphasizing love, fleeting moments, and vibrant color combinations that challenge traditional norms.
Why Emerging Artists Matter?
At APS, we believe in fostering new talent, which is why we’re thrilled to see our graduates featured in Why Not A Print? at Lizamore & Associates.
Artists like Seza Zitha, Khumo Ramaila, and Chevy Noir are defining the future of contemporary printmaking, bringing their deeply personal, powerful narratives into the spotlight. Their work is conceptually bold and technically impressive, proving that printmaking remains one of the most exciting and evolving mediums today.
APS Graduates on the Local and Global Stage
Our graduates continue to be part of international exhibitions, expanding their presence in global print spaces. Cinthia Sifa Mulanga will be showcasing her latest work at the Brooklyn Fine Art Print Fair from March 27–30, 2025, bringing her unique perspective to a platform dedicated to contemporary printmaking. Hlavutelo Ngobeni has returned from her Ampersand Fellowship residency in New York. Read more about her experience here.
iSabelo brings together artists who respond to a call—one of purpose, creativity, and standing for what is right. Among the featured artists are APS alumni Mbali Tshabalala and Bekezela Mabena, whose work reflects this spirit of artistic and social consciousness. Through bold expression and thoughtful engagement, their contributions add to a collective voice that uplifts, challenges, and unites communities.
These exhibitions and international opportunities highlight the many ways printmaking continues to evolve. As we celebrate these achievements, we look forward to seeing where their journeys take them next.
