Join us once again at Shepstone Gardens for the RMB Latitudes Art Fair 2024 from May 24-26, where Artist Proof Studio will present "Melodies of Memories". This year, Artist Proof Studio has curated an exciting show titled "Melodies of Memories," an exhibition that beautifully blends nostalgia, emotion, and artistic dialogue. Positioned once again in the glass marquee, we will continue to innovate, hosting two shows including our browser editions throughout the weekend to ensure there is always something new to discover. APS PARTNERS AND COLLABORATIONS

Last month, Artist Proof Studio was thrilled to host the "Occupying the Gallery" residency, an innovative collaboration that transformed our professional print studio into a vibrant creative space. Founded by Mary Sibande and Lawrence Lemaoana, the project brought together seven talented artists- Mosa Anita Kaiser, Hoek Swaratlhe, Londiwe Mtshali, Sphatho Mzantsi, Bongani Ndlovu, Tatenda Magaisa and Mlondi Magubane. During the residency, these artists worked closely with our master printers to explore innovative ideas and create stunning prints. By bringing together artists from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, the residency provided a platform for these creators to share their unique perspectives and methods.

The collaboration between Artist Proof Studio (APS), Occupying the Gallery, and the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) serves as a powerful example of how integrating artistic processes with cultural insights enriches the creative landscape. The new editions will be showcased at the upcoming RMB Latitudes Art Fair, available at the Artist Proof Studio booth and the "Occupying the Gallery" booth. This initiative is proudly supported by the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS), which plays a crucial role in fostering connections and supporting practitioners within the creative and cultural sectors.

Ntlo E Etsamayang’ (The Walking House) Monotype Workshop

The University of Johannesburg Art Gallery is currently showcasing "Ntlo E Etsamayang" (The Walking House), a special exhibition featuring the celebrated works of Mme Mmakgabo Helen Sebidi. This exhibition, co-curated by Gabriel Baard and Prof. Kim Berman, highlights Sebidi's dedication to Indigenous Knowledge Systems and explores themes of self-positioning, power, responsibility, and healing. It provides an in-depth exploration of the significant exchange of knowledge between South Africa and Sweden, further enriched by the remarkable recovery of 28 lost artworks found in Sweden after more than three decades.

As part of this event, Artist Proof Studio students had the unique opportunity to take part in a preparatory session led by Shannin Antonopoulo. During this session, Shannin conducted a detailed demonstration, outlining the process and techniques involved in managing a large workshop. Following this, Kim Berman facilitated the "Paper Prayer" workshop, attended by 60 participants, with the assistance of the students. Utilizing the skills learned from Shannin's demonstration, the students helped guide participants through the creation of unique monoprints that merge artistic expression with spiritual introspection.

This enriching experience provided the students with invaluable hands-on practice and deepened their understanding of conducting large-scale art workshops. It also allowed them to interact directly with significant artistic themes and contribute meaningfully to the exhibition's success.
